AHS reports two COVID deaths in South Zone, 33 new cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has provided Wednesday’s update on COVID-19, detailing the numbers compiled over the past 24 hours.

669 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 118,436. Of those, 10,565 cases are active while 106,387 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 33 people tested positive including nine in Cardston County and six in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 21 Albertans died from COVID with 10 in the Edmonton Zone, seven in the Calgary Zone, two in the South Zone, and one each in the Central and North Zones.

For the deaths in the South Zone, one was a woman in her 90’s from South Lethbridge. The other was a man in his 80’s whose death is linked to the outbreak at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,484 Albertans.

Provincially, 744 patients are currently hospitalized and 124 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 14,888 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,052,166 tests conducted on 1,723,087 different people.

Dr. Hinshaw commented Wednesday that 0.019 per cent of COVID-19 vaccines so far have caused adverse events.

  • Edmonton Zone – 49,664 cases, 3,679 active
    • 363 in hospital, 46 in ICU
    • 772 deaths (10 new)
  • Calgary Zone – 45,340 cases, 4,096 active
    • 217 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 477 deaths (seven new)
  • North Zone – 9,381 cases, 1,411 active
    • 74 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 91 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 8,330 cases, 949 active
    • 59 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 76 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 5,591 cases, 411 active
    • 31 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 68 deaths (two new)

  • Brooks – 1,361 cases, seven active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,598 cases (six new), 137 active, 11 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 578 cases (four new), 42 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 538 cases (two new), 61 active, eight deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 484 cases, 34 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 520 cases (four new), 34 active, 12 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 491 cases (four new), 28 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 410 cases (nine new), 109 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 328 cases (three new), 11 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 157 cases (two new), 11 active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 153 cases (one new), eight active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 151 cases (four new), 31 active, three deaths
  • Cypress County – 144 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 116 cases, two active, two deaths
