Canadians have third-highest levels of mental health struggles during pandemic

Jan 21, 2021 | 1:40 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lenstore’s 2021 Global State of Health report revealed that Canadian adults are among the highest in stress, anxiety, and sadness during the global pandemic.

Our home and native land ranks third highest in the world at 26% of all adults who experienced either stress, anxiety, or great sadness with our mental health because of the domino effect COVID-19 had on the world.

The report says part of the reason Canada is ranked high is due to the lack of resources being offered for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

At the top of the list, the United States is ranked number one at 33% and the United Kingdom at 26%.

List from Lenstore’s 2020 Global State of Health report

“2020 has proven to be an extremely tough year for many people’s mental health and well-being. Stress, anxiety, and overall sadness are all mental health concerns that need attention to help support those in need,” the report read.

On a positive note, Canada didn’t even crack the top ten of any of the other reports which are:

  • Highest Percentage of Vision Loss in Adults
  • Highest Percent of Obesity in Adults
  • Highest Percentage of Cancer Rates per 100,000 People
  • Highest Number of People With HIV/Aids
  • Highest Percentage of Smokers
  • Highest Percentage of Diabetics in its Population
