543 new COVID cases in Alberta with 29 in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

543 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 123,364. Of those, 7,805 cases are active while 113,939 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, there were 39 positive tests with the bulk of those being in Lethbridge at 29.

Active infections in the city rose by 15 but were relatively flat across the region.

Since yesterday’s update, 14 Albertans died from COVID including nine in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Central Zone, and one each in the Calgary and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,620.

Provincially, 594 patients are currently hospitalized and 110 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 11,591 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,154,153 tests conducted on 1,749,944 different people.

There have been 104,327 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered across the province as of the end of January 28.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 51,266 cases, 2,662 active
    • 246 in hospital, 38 in ICU
    • 848 deaths (nine new)
  • Calgary Zone – 47,320 cases, 3,138 active
    • 199 in hospital, 48 in ICU
    • 505 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 10,049 cases, 9,57 active
    • 70 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 109 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 8,777 cases, 692 active
    • 45 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 87 deaths (three new)
  • South Zone – 5,822 cases, 340 active
    • 34 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 71 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,361 cases, three active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,704 cases (29 new), 133 active, 12 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 611 cases (seven new), 41 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 587 cases (14 new), 62 active, nine deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 507 cases (eight new), 29 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 527 cases (two new), 21 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 512 cases (two new), 29 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 466 cases (four new), 83 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 328 cases, four active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 181 cases (two new), 37 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 158 cases, six active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 157 cases, nine active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, one active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 92 cases, eight active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 19 cases, four active, zero deaths
