South Zone sees just eight new COVID cases, 268 in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

268 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 124,831. Of those, 6,912 cases are active while 116,259 people have recovered.

The South Zone saw just eight new infections, driving down active cases by 30.

Four new cases in the city were identified in Lethbridge, meaning active cases remained flat.

Both the M.D. of Taber and County of Forty Mile are now completely free of active COVID cases. In Cardston County, active infections have fallen by 13 in one day.

Since yesterday’s update, 13 Albertans died from COVID including four in the Calgary Zone, three in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Central Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,660 in the province.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 556 patients are currently hospitalized and 97 have been admitted to intensive care.

50 cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Alberta to date and seven have come from the South Africa variant.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says most have been the result of international travellers returning to Canada. Six were in close contacts of travellers, while eight have no known links to travel.

With another 7,899 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,188,779 tests completed on 1,759,663 different people.

107,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the province as of the end of February 1. This includes around 17,000 people who have received the recommended two doses.

  • Edmonton Zone – 51,643 cases, 2,280 active
    • 225 in hospital, 36 in ICU
    • 865 deaths (three new)
  • Calgary Zone – 47,927 cases, 2,805 active
    • 185 in hospital, 40 in ICU
    • 519 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 10,265 cases, 852 active
    • 62 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 115 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 8,970 cases, 655 active
    • 49 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 89 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 5,894 cases, 300 active
    • 35 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 72 deaths (one new)

  • Brooks – 1,362 cases (one new), three active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,737 cases (four new), 143 active, 12 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 617 cases, 36 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 599 cases, 66 active, nine deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 521 cases (four new), 39 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 529 cases (two new), 13 active, 14 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 515 cases (one new), 23 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 490 cases, 70 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 328 cases, zero active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 184 cases, 32 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 158 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 157 cases, three active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 92 cases, two active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 24 cases, five active, zero deaths
