EDMONTON, AB– On February 2nd, Canada was in 29th place for COVID-19 vaccinations globally.

One day later, Canada dropped four spots and currently sits at 33rd in the world for vaccine doses administered with a percentage of 2.6%.

In the last week, the country received zero Pfizer vaccine shipments outlined by Premier Jason Kenney in a tweet.

He says Pfizer vaccines are down 80% this week as well as next week.

In Canada’s first February vaccine shipment from Moderna, doses fell 25%.

Kenney adds that provinces are expecting even less in Moderna’s second vaccine shipment.

The report comes from Ourworldindata.org and at the top of the list for world vaccine doses administered sits Israel at 58.8%.

Not far behind, is the United Arab Emirates at 34.8% and Seychelles at 31.4%.

In the United States, however, its large population has only 9.9% administered compared to the United Kingdom having 14.9% vaccines administered.

Kenney says “this is devastating for Canadians,” seeing other countries around the world getting larger shipments of vaccines.

109,341 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the province as of the end of February 2. This includes approximately 19,000 people who have received the recommended two doses.

Canada has some good news though, as Canada signed a deal with Novavax to make its COVID-19 vaccine at their new Montreal facility.

Canada being passed over by certain vaccine companies sparked the government to push and secure as many doses as they can for companies like Novavax.
