Surveillance operation results in LPS laying drug-related charges

LETHBRIDGE, AB- A Lethbridge Police Priority Crimes Unit (PCU) short-term surveillance operation has resulted in drug-related charges against a 30-year-old man.

Officers witnessed activity consistent with drug trafficking, which brought in backup from PCU members, the Crime Suppression Team, Downtown Policing Unit, and the Patrol Operations Division.

It led to a search warrant being executed on Wednesday, Feb. 3, of a home and vehicle in the 800-block of 17 Street South.

Police seized 13.8 grams of cocaine, worth about $1,380, a number of marijuana plants, and $1,390 in cash.

Clayton Redel, of Lethbridge, was charged with: possession for the purpose of trafficking; possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000; and a charge under the Cannabis Act for unlawfully possessing marijuana plants in excess of the allowable limit.

Redel was released from custody to appear in court April 27, 2021.
