10 new COVID cases for Lethbridge Saturday, 348 across Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released the latest COVID-19 numbers for Saturday, Feb. 6.

In the last 24 hours, 348 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported across Alberta.

That brings the province’s total case count to 126,416, with 6,266 of those listed as active.

On Feb. 5, 10,033 tests were completed. That means there have been 3,236,038 tests completed across the province with 1,771,688 people tested.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw noted a positivity rate of 3.6 per cent for the 10,033 tests completed Feb. 5.

She noted that there are currently 457 people in hospital with 84 individuals in intensive care (ICU).

12 new deaths were reported since Friday’s update, however, the math, according to statistics provided by the Alberta Government, adds up to 13 new deaths since Friday. The provincial death toll stands at 1,705.

“I’d like to express my heartfelt condolences to all those mourning a lost loved one today,” Hinshaw stated on social media.

“It’s important that we remain vigilant and follow public health guidance so we can continue on the path forward. Please continue to refrain from indoor social gatherings. Wear a mask when in an indoor public setting and stay home if you’re sick.”

As of Friday, Feb. 5, 116,716 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta.

Below is a breakdown of cases per provincial health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 52,066 cases, 1,940 active
    • 182 in hospital, 28 in ICU
    • 885 deaths (six new)
  • Calgary Zone – 48,613 cases, 2,561 active
    • 156 in hospital, 33 in ICU
    • 532 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 10,482 cases, 794 active
    • 52 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 117 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 9,148 cases, 654 active
    • 32 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 97 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 5,988 cases, 304 active
    • 35 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 74 deaths

The province lists 119 cases in unknown zones, with 13 listed as active.

Additionally, officials are monitoring the variant strains of COVID-19. Those case numbers are updated Fridays and Tuesday.

As of Friday, Feb. 5, 71 cases of the variant first identified in the United Kingdom have been detected in Alberta. Seven cases of the variant first identified in South Africa have ben confirmed in the province.

  • Brooks – 1,362 cases, two active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,789 cases (10 new), 166 active, 13 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 630 cases, 37 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 626 cases, 79 active, 10 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 532 cases, 47 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 532 cases (two new), 14 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 518 cases, 19 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 505 cases, 58 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 332 cases, four active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 197 cases (10 new), 26 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 157 cases (one new), one active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 158 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 93 cases, one active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 24 cases, five active, zero deaths
