LETHBRIDGE, AB – To say that it’s been cold lately is an understatement.

Environment Canada says the “unseasonably cold arctic ridge of high pressure” continued to break low-temperature records across Alberta.

26 records were broken over the weekend with another 15 set on Monday.

Of the 15 communities with new records on Monday, Red Deer was the coldest at -43.9. That breaks the record set in 1936, which was -40.6.

In Southern Alberta, there were three new low-temperature records broken.

These include:

  • High River Area
    • New record of -33.2
    • Old record of -33.0 set in 1994
    • Records in this area have been kept since 1913
  • Milk River Area

    • Old record of -31.7 set in 2017
