Lethbridge College testing new campus safety app Tuesday afternoon

Feb 9, 2021 | 10:11 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge College will be testing out its new mass notification system this afternoon.

At 1 p.m. on Feb. 9, members of the campus community can expect emails, text messages, push notifications and phone calls as part of a test for the new app, LC Alert.

The app will be used to notify staff and students of any future campus safety events and updates.

LC Alert offers several different safety features, aside from notifying users with push notifications of critical incidents. These include:

  • Work Alone lets users set how long they expect to be working alone and reminds them to check in at regular intervals. Check-in is a simple one-click process on the user’s phone. If someone fails to check in on the schedule they’ve set, their emergency contact will be notified and can attempt to reach the app user, can check their location or can call for help. Work Alone also has a panic button if it’s needed.
  • Friend Walk lets a user pick a contact who can watch in real time as they walk to their destination. This includes a panic button to immediately contact that friend if need be. If the user is on campus, they can remember that Lethbridge College’s Campus Security (403-320-3206) can provide a Safewalk. Security can be called to accompany anyone as they walk to their destination on campus. Campus community members can call directly from the LC Alert app.
  • Keep the user’s family and friends apprised of situations on campus that might affect them. Have loved ones download the LC Alert app to receive the same notifications the user gets.
  • A Safety Toolbox lets users set up quick notification of their GPS location and an “I’m OK” email to family or friends.
  • Maps to muster points and defibrillator locations on campus.
  • Procedures to follow in a variety of incidents.
  • Quick links to campus and community resources related to your safety.
