AHS reports two COVID-19 deaths in South Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

352 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 127,921. Of those, 5,501 cases are active while 120,676 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 15 people tested positive. 14 were in Lethbridge and one was in Medicine Hat.

Despite the uptick in infections in Lethbridge, active cases fell by 20 in the city since yesterday’s report while the South Zone declined by 34.

The County of Warner and Municipality of Crowsnest Pass now have zero active cases.

16 Albertans died from COVID since Wednesday’s update including seven in the Edmonton Zone, four in the Calgary Zone, three in the North Zone, and two in the South Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,744.

Both deaths in the South Zone were for residents of South Lethbridge. One was a man in his 80’s and the other was a woman in her 80’s.

A spokesperson with AHS told LNN that both deaths are linked to an outbreak at The View in Lethbridge, a local retirement community.

84 cases are linked to that outbreak. 29 are active and 54 have recovered.

Provincially, 397 patients are currently hospitalized including 71 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 9,968 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,278,428 tests conducted on 1,782,832 different people.

135,575 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province as of the end of February 10. Approximately 42,000 people have received the recommended two doses.

  • Edmonton Zone – 52,471 cases, 1,616 active
    • 138 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 901 deaths (seven new)
  • Calgary Zone – 49,181 cases, 2,202 active
    • 148 in hospital, 30 in ICU
    • 542 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 10,681 cases, 703 active
    • 48 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 123 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 9,381 cases, 679 active
    • 30 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 101 deaths
  • South Zone – 6,093 cases, 292 active
    • 33 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 77 deaths (two new)

  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, four active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,857 cases (14 new), 169 active, 15 deaths (two new)
    • West Lethbridge – 652 cases (three new), 42 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 647 cases (four new), 64 active, 12 deaths (two new)
    • North Lethbridge – 557 cases (seven new), 61 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 537 cases (one new), 14 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 522 cases, 58 active, eight deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 520 cases, nine active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 332 cases, four active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 203 cases, 24 active, four deaths
  • County of Newell – 158 cases, one active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 158 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 145 cases, one active, zero deaths
