Ottawa announces $55-million in clean tech funding for 20 companies, including six in Alberta

OTTAWA, ON – The federal government has announced a $55 million investment to support the country’s clean tech sector.

The funding will go to 20 companies across Canada.

The multi-million dollar investment will help fund research and development on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support more sustainable agriculture and lessen the environmental impacts of mining.

The recipients include a Regina company using drones to help reduce the amount of chemicals that farmers apply to their land and firm based in Montreal that’s developing more efficient glass for solar panels.

Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne stated that the spending will help keep Canada at the forefront of the large and growing clean technology market.

Federal figures suggest that market is set to exceed $2.5 trillion by 2022.

The following Alberta-based companies are receiving funding:

  • $5.4 million for Excir Work Group in Calgary, for their Technology Large Scale Demonstration and Deployment (Waste Management sector)
  • $10 million to Titanium Corporation Inc. in Calgary for their Creating Value from Waste (CVW) Horizon (Waste Management sector)
  • $1.3 million to Calgary’s Westgen Technologies Inc. For their Commercial Demonstration of EPOD Zero Bleed Pneumatic Instrument Air Solution (Power Generation sector)
  • $3.9 million to AdvEn Industries Inc. in Edmonton for their AdvEn Super Activated Carbon Commercial Demonstration Plant (Energy Utilization sector)
  • $400,000 to Challenger Technical Service Ltd. in Elk Point for their Multi-Component Downhole Injection System (Energy Exploration & Production sector)
  • $1.3 million for Calgary-based Sulvaris Inc. for their Development of Potash and Ammonium Sulfate MST® (Agriculture sector)
