LETHBRIDGE, AB– Even through the pandemic, Lethbridge College students in the Automotives programs have been getting hands-on experience.

To keep student skills up to date, two new 2020 vehicles, donated from Dunlop Ford, were added to the program’s curriculum.

These new vehicles will expand their student’s knowledge on how to repair newer vehicles than what they’re normally used to.

Sustainable funding is a problem for the college, says Dean of Trades, Sheldon Anderson adding that this donation will help programs now and for the future.

“If you look at the total value of these vehicles, for us to keep current in all of our trades is a huge capital demand and whenever we can get support from industry it really helps us to train on the newest and greatest things.”

These vehicles are new but have flood damage, so it proved to be the perfect opportunity for the college to get new equipment.

Anderson believes having the best technology for students provides them with more incentive and drive to pursue trades like automotive technology.

“It’s a challenge to stay current,” says Anderson, highlighting that the times and technology keep changing in vehicles so that they need to keep allowing students to access new tech.
