14 new COVID cases in South Zone including 10 in Lethbridge

EDMONTON, AB. Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

277 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 129,615. Of those, 4,857 cases are active while 122,960 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 14 people tested positive with 10 of those coming from Lethbridge.

This has lead to active infections remaining flat in the city and falling slightly across the region.

The County of Newell joins the growing list of communities in the South Zone that now has zero active cases. The County of Forty Mile and the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass also have none while Brooks has one.

Since yesterday’s update, seven Albertans died from COVID including three in the Edmonton Zone, two in the Calgary Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones. To date, 1,798 Albertans have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The person from the South Zone was a resident of Fort Macleod.

Provincially, 370 patients are currently hospitalized including 60 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 7,476 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,321,090 tests completed among 1,794,831 different people.

152,056 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province as of the end of February 16.

  • Edmonton Zone – 52,847 cases, 1,270 active
    • 122 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 930 deaths (three new)
  • Calgary Zone – 49,791 cases, 1,823 active
    • 136 in hospital, 27 in ICU
    • 558 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 10,972 cases, 719 active
    • 45 in hospital, zero in ICU
    • 127 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 9,642 cases, 697 active
    • 31 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 101 deaths
  • South Zone – 6,250 cases, 338 active
    • 36 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 82 deaths (one new)

  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, one active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,956 cases (10 new), 211 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 674 cases (two new), 52 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 673 cases (four new), 73 active, 15 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 608 cases (four new), 85 active, two deaths
  • Cardston County – 548 cases, 52 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 543 cases (two new), 20 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 531 cases (one new), 14 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 334 cases, four active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 212 cases, 26 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 161 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 158 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases (one new), two active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 117 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 95 cases, two active, four deaths (one new)
  • Crowsnest Pass – 24 cases, zero active, zero deaths
