CASTLE MOUNTAIN RESORT, AB – A teen is recovering in a Calgary hospital following an incident at Castle Mountain Resort on Wednesday.

The resort’s sales and marketing manager, Cole Fawcett told LNN that the 17-year-old girl suffered an injury in the Far Chutes area of the mountain, an area classified as “expert level terrain” at around 11:45 a.m.

Castle’s team was dispatched out to the area and ski patrollers – who serve as the resort’s first responders – administered first aid on the scene.

“We transported her to our base area. We immediately activated EMS upon coming on to the scene, and as it was a suspected head injury, we also activated STARS [Air Ambulance] at that point in time, who did subsequently land at the resort and transported that injured guest to Foothills [Medical Centre] in Calgary,” Fawcett said.

He noted that the teen was wearing a helmet, and fortunately, is recovering well.

“We had the good fortune of speaking with her folks this morning [Thursday, Feb. 18]. They indicated that she was awake and alert and recovering this morning, so that’s good news.”

Pincher Creek Emergency Services also responded to the scene.
