“Smoking materials” responsible for south-side fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Fire and Emergency Services were called to a residential fire in the 1200 block of Lakemount Blvd S. early Friday afternoon (Feb. 19).

Firefighters found the rear attached second floor deck on fire but, were able to quickly limit the blaze and smoke damage.

A total of 22 crew members from three stations responded. There were no injuries and damages are estimated at $15,000.

Fire investigators determined the origin of the fire was accidental. However, Fire officials remind residents that when extinguishing smoking materials, they must be disposed of properly, in a non-combustible container filled with sand or water.
