LETHBRIDGE, AB – Hockey fans in Alberta will be pleased to know that, so far, nobody playing in the WHL’s Central Division is positive for COVID-19.

The Central Division is comprised entirely of Alberta-based teams including the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Medicine Hat Tigers, Calgary Hitmen, Red Deer Rebels, and Edmonton Oil Kings.

In its third week since practices resumed, the WHL conducted 177 COVID-19 tests and all of them came back negative.

“Using private PCR testing provided by DynaLIFE, testing was administered once to all members of the team delegations of players and staff from February 14 through February 26, 2021,” reads a statement from the league.

Across the WHL, there were no positive results among 481 tests conducted between February 6 to 26.

Friday marks the season opener for the Lethbridge Hurricanes as they take on the Oil Kings in Edmonton.

While fans are not allowed in attendance, the Canes’ home opener takes place on Saturday in a rematch with Edmonton.
