Hurricanes thumped 7-1 by Oil Kings in season opener

LETHBRIDGE, AB– It wasn’t a pretty start to the Lethbridge Hurricanes season.

Canes goalie Carl Tetachuk got the start in the season opener to kick off the 2021 campaign.

First period:

The Edmonton Oil Kings’ Dylan Guentheroff started the scoring off his season scoring 1:47 into the game.

Shortly after, Oil Kings’ Kade Oliver added a goal less than one minute after the first goal.

The first period ended 2-0 for the Oil Kings.

Second period:

The Canes get on the board for the first time this season 25 seconds into the second frame.

Noah Boyko gets on the board, assisted by Alex Cotton and Logan Barlage.

Nine minutes later, Josh Williams for the Oil Kings answered the Canes with a goal for his second point of the night.

Two minutes after, Dylan Guenther adds his second point of the night with a goal.

Oil kings lead 4-1 heading into the thirds period.

Third period:

Tyler Horstmann starts off the scoring in the third three minutes into the final period.

Not long after that, Jake Neighbours and Carson Latimer both score to extend the lead.

In the end, shots were dominant for the Oil Kings with 47-27 over the Hurricanes.

Oil Kings win 7-1 to start their season off right. Hurricanes play again in the home-and-home series against the Oil Kings tomorrow, February 27th at 6 pm.
