CALGARY, AB – A man from Calgary was arrested last month on charges relating to drug trafficking and exportation.

The Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) conducted a four-month investigation that lead to the seizure of approximately three kilograms of methamphetamine.

“The investigation involved an illicit scheme to export methamphetamine from Alberta to Australia,” reads a media release from Alberta RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Back in September, CBSA officers found two shipments destined for Australia.

Concealed in the boxes were approximately three kilograms of crystalline powder, later confirmed to be meth.

On February 17, 2021, Akhif Alaudin Alibhai, 31, of Calgary, was charged with exportation of a controlled substance, exportation of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and smuggling out of Canada.

“This partnership works to prevent illegal drug exportation that generates profits for organized crime,” says Inspector Germain Leger, Operations Officer with K Division Federal Serious and Organized Crime in Southern Alberta. “This seizure reflects our mutual commitment to providing excellent law enforcement services, including those of international scope as well as to the communities to which we serve and protect.”

Alibhai was released on bail on February 19 and is scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on March 10.
