CALGARY, AB – A Taber-born goalie has been recognized for his hard work on the ice.

Brayden Peters of the Calgary Hitmen has been named the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 7, 2021.

The 18-year-old registered his first shutout of the WHL season with a 27-save game in a 2-0 win for the Hitmen over Red Deer last Friday, March 5.

Not only was it Peters’ first career shutout, it was the first for any goaltender in the league this regular season.

In that Friday night matchup, the Taber product made seven saves in the first period, 11 in the second and another nine in the final frame.

Originally selected by the Hitmen in the fifth round (95th overall) of the 2017 WHL Draft, Peters has set a career record of 19-15-2-0 with a 2.69 goals against average, a .905 save percentage, and one shutout.

Next up for Peters and the Hitmen is a meeting with the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, March 12.
