LETHBRIDGE, AB – More COVID-19 cases have been identified at Lethbridge schools.

The Lethbridge School Division has reported a second case at Victoria Park High School, as well as a second case at Senator Buchanan Elementary School.

The Medical Officer of Health has started an investigation at both schools, and Public Health staff are investigating to determine close contacts.

“The risk to the general population in the school of becoming infected because of these cases is low,” read a letter from the Lethbridge School Division.

Close contacts will be notified by email and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days.

The schools have also received recommendations for enhanced cleaning and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. If a parent/guardian is not contacted, then their child is not a close contact and can attend school as usual, following all public health guidance.

The division said the class schedule at both schools will proceed as normal for Wednesday, March 17.

It could not be reported if the affected individuals were students and/or staff members.

The Lethbridge School Division has also confirmed a single case at Immanuel Christian Secondary School.

On Monday, Lethbridge School Division Superintendent Cheryl Gilmore responded to the recent spike in cases at the division’s schools. Her comments can be seen here.
