696 new COVID cases in Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

696 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 140,823. Of those, 5,429 cases are active while 133,437 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 57 people tested positive including 44 in Lethbridge bringing the active case count for the city up to 482.

Since yesterday’s update, no new Albertans have died from COVID, making the total number of deaths 1,957.

Provincially, 276 patients are currently hospitalized including 48 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 11,918 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,576,041 tests completed on 1,867,286 different people.

Since yesterday’s report, 129 new cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 were confirmed in Alberta.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 55,490 cases, 1,299 active
    • 93 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 994 deaths
  • Calgary Zone – 53,928 cases, 2,172 active
    • 93 in hospital, 18 in ICU
    • 599 deaths
  • North Zone – 13,059 cases, 745 active
    • 29 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 142 deaths
  • Central Zone – 10,894 cases, 526 active
    • 30 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 120 deaths
  • South Zone – 7,336 cases, 675 active
    • 31 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 102 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 2,720 cases (44 new), 482 active, 28 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 944 cases (19 new), 202 active, six deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 903 cases (13 new), 152 active, 19 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 873 cases (12 new), 129 active, three deaths
  • Brooks – 1,365 cases, two active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 716 cases (one new), 95 active, 13 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 570 cases (four new), 11 active, 17 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 572 cases (four new), 23 active, seven deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 349 cases (three new), eight active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 235 cases, 18 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 177 cases, 15 active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 160 cases, one active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 121 cases, three active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 116 cases (two new), 12 active, four deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 28 cases, four active, zero deaths
