LETHBRIDGE, AB. — The Lethbridge Hurricanes opened a three-in-three weekend with a 3-1 win at the Enmax Friday (Mar 19) night against the Calgary Hitmen.

After winning two of three games against the Red Deer Rebels the previous weekend, the Canes were sitting at 2-3-0-0.

The Canes’ Ty Nash charted the game’s first penalty at 5:38 of the first period for Cross checking. The game moved into a period of back and forth until the 13:10 mark, when Justin Hall lobbed the puck toward Calgary’s net and put his team on the scoreboard. Assists were credited to Liam Kindree and Noah Boyko.

The next action was a hooking penalty against Calgary’s Evan Toth at the 15-minute mark and the period ended with the Canes’ 1-0 lead.

Second period action also opened with a penalty – this one at 1:36, courtesy of Trevor Thurston for interference.

At 3:37, Dino Kambeitz followed up with a short-handed goal, to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead. The remainder of the frame produced two more penalties. A two-minute minor for the Hitmen on a slashing infraction against Orca Wiesblatt and the Canes’ Mitch Prowse pulled in a Delay of Game as the whistle blew.

The final 20 minutes produced two more goals. Calgary’s Luke Prokop cut the Canes lead to 2-1 with a goal at 13:36. However, the Canes captured the game on a 3-1, as Chase Wheatcroft scored an empty net goal with 20-second remaining on the clock.

The game’s three stars go to Bryan Thomson, Dino Kambeitz and Calgary’s Rayden Pet.

Now sitting at 3-3-0-0, the Hurricanes and Hitmen meet again Saturday night in Calgary and complete the three-game set Sunday evening back at the Enmax at 6:00-pm.
