CALGARY, AB. — After the Hurricanes 3-1 win against the Hitmen on home ice Friday night, the Canes travelled north for the second of three consecutive games for the two teams.

Just over three minutes after puck drop, Calgary’s Josh Prokop landed the first goal of the game, off an assist from Tyson Galloway and it was 1-0 for the Hitmen.

Then less than a minute later, Canes’ Captain Dino Kambeitz and Cael Zimmerman dropped the gloves, earning the pair a five-minute major for fighting. The penalty action continued shortly after, as Calgary’s Orca Wiesblatt was sent to the penalty box for interference.

Mid way through the frame, Liam Kindree tied the game off an assist from Chase Wheatcroft. That tie remained when the buzzer went to end the first period.

The second 20-minutes produced a string of penalties, with the action coming at one minute intervals.

It began at the five-minute mark, when the Canes’ Alex Thacker was sent to the box for hooking, and five minutes later, Logan Barlage was nabbed for slashing.

Sixty second later, Hurricane Trevor Thurston and Calgary’s Orca Wiesblatt were sent to sit out time for roughing, followed by Wiesblatt’s team-mates Jackson van de Leest and Luke Prokop were each hit with penalties for interference.

As the game reached the 13-minute mark, Logan Barlage was back on the ice in time to land a power play goal, assisted by Zack Stringer and Alex Cotton. A minute later, Justin Hall landed his sixth goal of the season on a power play and put the Canes ahead 3-1.

The excitement of the extra goals gave way to more penalties. With 90 seconds remaining, Dino Kambeitz was tapped for Unsportsmanlike Conduct, which was served by Salvatore Collora. However, Kambeitz and Calgary’s Jackson van de Leest were both tagged with a five-minute Major for fighting.

The middle frame ended with 26-penalty minutes and a 3-1 lead for the Hurricanes.

If the second period belonged to the Hurricanes, the final 20-minutes were owned by the Hitmen.

Hurricanes Chase Wheatcroft and Mitch Prowse racked up another three penalties, for slashing, hooking and Delay of Game.

Calgary’s Tyson Galloway scored an unassisted goal at 14:31, narrowing the score with the Canes and three minutes later Riley Fiddler-Schultz tied the game 3-3, and took the game to extra time.

The Hitmen were anxious to make short work of overtime, as just 38 seconds in, Tyson Galloway lobbed the puck between the pipes, giving the Hitmen a 4-3 win.

The final game of the three-in-three weekend takes place at the Enmax on Sunday, beginning at 6:00-pm
