456 new COVID cases in Alberta, 43 in South Zone

EDMONTON, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

456 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 142,390. Of those, 6,176 cases are active while 134,246 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 43 people tested positive.

Active infections in the city grew by nine and regionally by 18.

Since yesterday’s update, five Albertans died from COVID including two in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the South, Calgary, and North Zones. To date, 1,968 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a man in his 60’s from South Lethbridge. The case included comorbidities but is not believed to be connected to any outbreaks.

Provincially, 280 patients are currently hospitalized including 48 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 7,547 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,605,024 tests completed on 1,875,878 different people.

487,493 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 21.

Since yesterday’s report, another 110 cases of COVID-19 variants have been confirmed in Alberta with one of them in the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 55,786 cases, 1,407 active
    • 85 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 1,001 deaths (two new)
  • Calgary Zone – 54,650 cases, 2,598 active
    • 98 in hospital, 19 in ICU
    • 600 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 13,248 cases, 789 active
    • 22 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 143 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 11,034 cases, 585 active
    • 35 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 120 deaths
  • South Zone – 7,543 cases, 780 active
    • 40 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 104 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 2,849 cases, 524 active, 29 deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 996 cases, 220 active, six deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 926 cases, 159 active, 20 deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 924 cases, 146 active, three deaths
  • Brooks – 1,366 cases, four active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 737 cases, 106 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 607 cases, 56 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 570 cases, nine active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 355 cases, 13 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 245 cases, 27 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 178 cases, 16 active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 160 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 146 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 123 cases, five active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 117 cases, 13 active, four deaths
