LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lethbridge City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt the Recreation and Culture Master Plan.

The previous Recreation and Culture plan was presented in 2013 and after review, the city had to update the plan.

Earlier in 2020, the city was looking for residential feedback through an online survey about the plan.

“Recreation and Culture, along with consultants RC Strategies, worked with community groups, community partners, internal and external stakeholders, and the community as a whole to engage them during this process,” the release reads.

The city says input into the plan included recommendations from the KPMG report and resulted in significant efficiencies being realized.

“This Master Plan will provide direction and guidance towards how we deliver Recreation and Culture services to the community,” says Robin Harper, General Manager, Recreation and Culture.

“The implementation of the Master Plan will ensure services are aligned with City priorities and it has a desired outcome of providing people with opportunities to be healthy, creative and connected to each other and to nature through meaningful public recreation and culture services,” Harper adds.

This master plan also addresses the potential impacts that Recreation and Culture programs and services can have on climate change and the environment.

Possible impacts that climate change may have on the future in Lethbridge is also discussed in the plan, which according to the city is important to Lethbridge.

“Recreation and Culture will continue to work with internal and external stakeholders in an effort to reduce Green House Gas Emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change,” the plan reads.

The master plan document will be updated on the city’s website soon.
