LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man from Fort McMurray has been found guilty of attempting to smuggle an estimated 31 kg of cocaine into Canada.

Back on March 17, 2018, Bradley Michael Gaudrault, 28, crossed the Carway border and was taken aside for a secondary inspection.

CBSA officers found 31 bricks of cocaine hidden in what authorities called a “sophisticated” compartment in the trunk of an SUV. Each of the bricks weighed approximately one kilogram.

They estimate, depending on how the drugs are packaged and sold, to have a street value of anywhere between $1.4 million and $3.1 million.

It was said to have been enough for around 310,000 hits.

On Tuesday, the 12-member jury declared him guilty of one count each of importing cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Gaudrault’s matter has been moved to Calgary Court of Queen’s Bench for a sentencing hearing on May 13, 2021.

As a result of his conviction, his bail has been revoked.
