764 new COVID cases in Alberta Thursday, 47 in Lethbridge

EDMONTON, AB– Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

764 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 144,311. Of those, 6,835 cases are active while 135,500.

In the South Zone, 76 people tested positive including 47 in Lethbridge. Chief Medical of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the positivity rate currently sits at 5.4%.

Since yesterday’s update, three Albertans died from COVID including one each in the Edmonton, North, and South Zones. 1,976 Albertans have lost their lives as a result of the virus. The singular death from the South Zone came from the Grandview Village estate in Lethbridge and was a woman in her 70’s.

Provincially, 294 patients are currently hospitalized including 55 who have been admitted to intensive care.

532,171 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 24.

Appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can be booked using the online tool or by phoning Health Link at 811.

With another 14,062 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,639,307 tests conducted on 1,885,938 different people.

191 new variant cases were detected over the past 24 hours bringing the total to date up to 2,301.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 56,174 cases, 1,512 active
    • 83 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 1,004 deaths (one new)
  • Calgary Zone – 55,571 cases, 3,099 active
    • 106 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 601 deaths
  • North Zone – 13,489 cases, 798 active
    • 28 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 144 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 11,210 cases, 611 active
    • 35 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 122 deaths
  • South Zone – 7,729 cases, 790 active
    • 42 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 105 deaths (one new)

  • Lethbridge – 2,951 cases (47 new), 510 active, 30 deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 1,042 cases (18 new), 213 active, six deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 958 cases (16 new), 153 active, three deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 951 cases (13 new), 144 active, 21 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 1,368 cases (two new), four active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 753 cases (three new), 81 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 649 cases (17 new), 91 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 573 cases, 10 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 366 cases (two new), 24 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 244 cases, 25 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 178 cases, 12 active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 162 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 147 cases, one active, zero deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 124 cases, five active, three deaths
