Tigers win OT thriller over Hurricanes 5-4

MEDICINE HAT, AB– In the final game of their three-game series with the Medicine Hat Tigers, the hometown Lethbridge Hurricanes were hungry for a win.

After dropping the previous game 6-3, the Canes made it close against the Tigers with Medicine Hat coming away with a 5-4 overtime win.

First Period:

To start off the game, near the five-minute mark of the first frame Brett Kemp put one past the Canes to go up 1-0.

With four minutes to go in the first, Chase Wheatcroft popped in his first goal of the game to even the game at one goal each. Dino Kambeitz and Logan McCutcheon assisted.

Second Period:

Barely three minutes into the second, Noah Boyko scores his first of the game for the Canes to lead 2-1.

Three minutes after Boyko’s goal, Tigers star Carson Hopwo scored his seventh of the season and first of the game to tie the game up at 2-2.

Ryan Chyzowski puts one past the Canes to go up 3-2 for the Tigers near the end of the second period.

Two minutes later, Joe Arntsen ties up the game once again at 3-3. Alex Cotton and Zack Stringer assisted.

Third Period:

Eight seconds into the final frame, Ryan Chyzowski scores his second of the game to start off the period, Tigers leads 4-3.

Nearly two minutes after Chyzowski’s go-ahead goal, Justin Hall evens up the game at 4-4. Logan Barlage assisted.

No winner after 60 minutes so they head into overtime.

Overtime:

Oren Shtrom scores the game-winner for the Tigers with less than a minute left.

After one hard-fought overtime period, the Tigers walk away with the two points.

Canes get one point out of the overtime loss and are back in action on April 9th.
