LETHBRIDGE, AB – Update: Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be an accidental kitchen fire, starting on the stove and quickly spreading to the dining room and living room.

The wind was gusting at 85 km/h at the time, which had a profound effect on the damage to the structure.

Previous story:

In addition to multiple wildfires that impacted the southern Alberta region, City of Lethbridge crews tackled a residential blaze Sunday.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to the residence on Trent Road West.

Heavy wind made the operation challenging, but crews were able to prevent flames from spreading to any adjacent properties.

Unfortunately, the City of Lethbridge said the blaze destroyed the structure. Damages are estimated at $300,000. A fire investigation will be completed.

The Red Cross is assisting the impacted residents.
