B-93 Morning Man, Harley Myhovich, to run for Lethbridge Mayor

Apr 1, 2021 | 8:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB. – A third name has emerged in the race for the city’s next Mayor.

Harley Myhovich, the morning voice on B-93 radio, is adding his name to the Mayoralty ballot for this October’s civic election.

Originally from Edmonton, Myhovich moved to Lethbridge about a year and a half ago. He loves the city, with all its pathways for walks and exploring nature, and felt he wanted to jump into the mix to see if he could contribute some new initiatives to further help the city grow socially and economically.

To underscore his commitment to this endeavor, Myhovich indicated Thursday would be his last day on the air. Federal regulations stipulate it is a conflict of interest for him to remain on air while running for public office. He will be taking a leave of absence immediately to get the wheels in motion and focus on his campaign beginning Monday, April 5. Should his bid for Mayor not be successful, he’ll return to the B-93 Morning Show in October, following the election.

Myhovich already has a list of ideas he wants to work toward:

— It is imperative we help and support small business as much as possible, especially those who have had more restrictions during the pandemic. For example: The Movie Mill.

— An issue that continues to surface in the city is the belief that we need a third bridge to the west side. What is holding us back is financing for the project. Perhaps it’s time to reconsider a toll for the bridge?

— A plebiscite is needed to determine if Lethbridge residents would want to eliminate Daylight Saving Time. Surrounding areas and towns would make their own judgement calls as to Daylight Saving Time changes.

— A goal to increasing the speed on parts of Mayor Magrath Drive to 70km/h. So far, only 2 extra traffic light stops would have to be implemented for this change to happen.

— I would like to incorporate a “Flannel Friday” around the city. On Fridays, residents would be encouraged to wear a flannel/plaid item of clothing. If caught wearing flannel by an official, residents might be awarded a free $5 discount gas voucher at participating locations.

— I am working on bringing upgraded benches to the city. These benches come with wind guards to help block the wind that Southern Alberta is no stranger to. People need a place to sit while they’re shopping, and they would barely feel the wind with these bench upgrades.
