LETHBRIDGE, AB – A fire on the south side of Lethbridge has been ruled as accidental.

Last Friday, April 2, at around 9:30 p.m., 22 city firefighters from four stations responded to a single-family residence on Beech Road South. On arrival, they found smoke and flames on the side and rear of the home. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly.

No injuries were reported.

A small white dog escaped the property during the blaze and is still missing. Officials say she is “likely scared and seeking shelter in the area”. If anyone sees the dog, they’re asked to call Lethbridge Animal Services at 403-320-4099.

Investigators deemed the origin of the fire to have been an overloaded multi-plug outlet in a bedroom.

“Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind residents to follow proper guidelines for electrical outlets,” read a release from the City of Lethbridge.

Damage from the fire is estimated at approximately $350,000.
