LETHBRIDGE, AB. — The Red Deer Rebels finally found their offensive stride Monday night in Lethbridge, but it still wasn’t enough as they dropped an 8-5 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge.

The Rebels lost their ninth game in a row and sit at 2-12-2-0 on the season. Lethbridge improved to 6-6-2-0 on the year.

Zack Stringer opened the scoring for Lethbridge 10:11 into the first period when he found a loose puck in the slot and put it past Rebels goalie Byron Fancy for his fifth goal of the year.

Just 36 seconds later, with the Hurricanes on the powerplay, Justin Hall ripped home a one-timer for his 10th goal of the year for a quick 2-0 lead.

The Rebels got on the board 1:05 after that. Lethbridge goalie Bryan Thomson pokechecked Arshdeep Bains, but rookie Kalan Lind was there to put home the loose puck for his second goal of the season.

Alex Cotton restored Lethbridge’s two-goal lead at 16:37 with another powerplay tally, another one-timer blast high past Fancy.

Red Deer pulled back within one on a powerplay of their own as Bains fed Ben King for his fifth goal of the year at the 19:02 mark. Dallon Melin also assisted on the goal that made it 3-2 through 20 minutes.

The Rebels tied the game 3:48 into period two when Melin drove the puck to the net and Ethan Rowland collected it and scored his fifth of the season.

But just 1:09 after that, Trevor Thurston surprised Fancy with a quick shot from the point for his second goal of the year and a 4-3 Hurricanes lead.

Red Deer tied the game again at 4-4 with 3:01 left in period two as Bains snapped home a powerplay goal, his fifth tally of the season.

Lethbridge surged back ahead 3:43 into the third period as Hall struck for his second goal of the game and 11th of the season.

Olds native Jett Jones gave the Hurricanes a 7-5 lead when he got a stick on Joe Arnsten’s point shot and tipped it past Fancy for his fourth goal of the year at the 9:29 mark.

King made things interesting when he fired home his second goal of the game with 4:14 left to play on a nice setup from Bains.

But the Hurricanes put the game away at the 16:34 mark on Thurston’s second on the night. Ty Nash added an empty netter with 29.1 seconds left to play to round out the 8-5 Lethbridge win.

Red Deer outshot Lethbridge 34-31 on the night and was 2-for-9 on the powerplay while the Hurricanes were 2-for-4.
