WestJet extends its suspension on “sun flight” destinations

Apr 14, 2021 | 11:42 AM

WestJet has announced they will be suspending all sun flights to destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean until June 4th, 2021. Travellers with affected itineraries will be notified of these cancelations and delays.

With more flights being cancelled, WestJet has been offering refunds to fliers since November 1st, 2020, and reimbursements are being offered regardless of the fare class originally booked.

Ed Sims, WestJet’s President and CEO says, “We remain focused on a long-term solution that will serve the best interests of Canadians, a safe travel-restart framework is the most effective way to support those interests and restore jobs.”

The airline has been serving Canadians for the past 25 years and hopes that, as more people are eligible to be a part of the vaccine rollout, that government policy will transition.

“We continue to advocate for the replacement of mandatory hotel quarantines with a testing regime that is equitable and consistent with global standards at all points of entry into our country,” says Sims. “Alongside an accelerated and successful vaccine rollout, this policy transition will support the safe restart of travel and help stimulate the Canadian economy, where one in ten jobs are tourism-related.”

WestJet has been dedicated to creating a strict hygiene program to ensure all Canadians can continue to travel safely.
