EDMONTON, AB. — The Hurricanes had a three-game win streak snapped Thursday (Apr 15) at the Enmax, as the Oil Kings shut-out the Canes 4-0. They were looking to redeem themselves Saturday night in Edmonton, in the second of a three game set.

It turned out to be a busy first period and the Hurricanes got off to a good start, just a minute after puck drop. Justin Hall potted an unassisted goal, his 12th of the season, to put his team on team on his board.

Hall followed it up with a hooking penalty two minutes later and teammate Chase Wheatcroft followed it up with his own hooking penalty. At the same time, Edmonton’s Keagan Slaney was docked two minutes for “embellishment”, while fellow player Ethan Peters was sent to the box for a Delay of Game.

Shortly after the seven-minute mark, Noah Boyko found the back of Edmonton’s net, assisted by Alex Cotton and Liam Kindree, giving the Canes a 2-0 lead.

The lead was cut in half minutes later, when the Jalen Luypen scored for the Oil Kings.

Three quarters of the way through the period, the Canes Ty Nash and the Oil Kings’ Carter Souch got into a tussle and were both tagged five minutes for Major-fighting.

With seven seconds remaining in the first, Noah Boyko found Edmonton’s net for the second time, off an assist from Justin Hall. The period ended with the Canes leading 3-1.

The Oil Kings came back with a vengeance in the second frame. With just four-on-four skating, Edmonton produced goals at 55 seconds and again at 2:49, to tie the game.

The Kings took a hit at 4:35, as Tyler Horstmann was tapped for slewfooting a play and then a Game Misconduct.

Shortly after the misconduct, the Canes’ Noah Boyko took an assist from Logan McCutheon and Liam Kindree to put his team ahead 4-1 with a hat trick.

The final two goals of the frame came from the Oil Kings at 13:44 and Hurricane Zack Stringer tallied his fifth of the season with 90-seconds on the clock. The period ended with the Canes leading 5-2.

While the first two periods provided a flurry of goals and penalties, the final twenty minutes produced limited minor penalties and a single goal for the Oil Kings.

The five-all tie remained at the buzzer and the teams went to a three-on-three over-time. However, no scoring meant a shoot-out followed. After seven shooters missed the mark, Logan Barlage hit the mark, giving his team a 6-5 WIN.

Edmonton outshot the Canes 39-36 and the Oil King also racked up more penalties – 29-minutes and a game misconduct to the Hurricanes 16-minutes.

The two teams wrap up their three game set Sunday night in Lethbridge.
