49 new COVID cases in Lethbridge, 1,345 provincially

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,345 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 173,531. Of those, 18,481 cases are active while 153,002 people have recovered.

826 cases, or about 61 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the South Zone, 85 people tested positive including 49 in Lethbridge and 11 in Lethbridge County.

Active infections in the city grew by eight and by 31 regionally.

Since yesterday’s update, five Albertans died from COVID including four in the Edmonton Zone and one in the North Zone. The virus has now claimed the lives of 2,048 people.

Provincially, 476 patients are currently hospitalized including 105 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 13,163 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,980,901 tests completed on 1,987,683 different people.

1,195,428 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of April 19.

Since yesterday’s report, 816 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta with 44 of those coming from the South Zone.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 68,782 cases, 8,098 active
    • 190 in hospital, 50 in ICU
    • 619 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 63,501 cases, 4,899 active
    • 161 in hospital, 33 in ICU
    • 1,035 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 17,576 cases, 2,543 active
    • 42 in hospital, eight in ICU
    • 152 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 14,056 cases, 1,900 active
    • 51 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 130 deaths
  • South Zone – 9,523 cases, 969 active
    • 32 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 112 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 3,899 cases (49 new), 470 active, 34 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,408 cases (22 new), 240 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,294 cases (22 new), 110 active, eight deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,176 cases (five new), 107 active, 23 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,377 cases, 10 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 853 cases (two new), 37 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 870 cases (11 new), 128 active, nine deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 731 cases (four new), 107 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 468 cases (seven new), 48 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 265 cases, 17 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 239 cases (five new), 54 active, three deaths
  • Cypress County – 200 cases (eight new), 39 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 175 cases (one new), 12 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 185 cases (two new), 25 active, four deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 141 cases (four new), 10 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 37 cases (one new), six active, zero deaths
