Lethbridge Chamber hosting fibre optic information town hall

Apr 20, 2021 | 1:34 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce is warning citizens of possible scams through fibre optic connectivity lines.

“Beware of any offers coming your way that sound “too good to be true” of free connections rates,” the chamber release reads.

For property owners in either the Sherring or Churchill Industrial Park, the chamber is hosting a town hall event to advise citizens about the high-level plans to bring fibre optic connectivity to their industrial property.

“The City of Lethbridge has heard clearly from the business community in Churchill and Sherring industrial parks that they are being hampered in their business with poor communication functionality being provided through traditional sources,” the release reads.

After these findings, city staff was directed to immediately investigate the opportunity to improve fibre optic communication infrastructure in Lethbridge.

A successful grant application has made the funding available to install a high-bandwidth, or high-speed, fibre optic-based communications network throughout the two industrial parks.

The chamber will be hosting three separate virtual town halls to inform those in the two areas.

Three dates and times to attend:

The chamber says the new fibre optic lines will have a great benefit to all.

“Fibre optic communications is a “future proof” technology enabling business to participate in cloud computing options, video conferencing, and many other digital economy functions which have become absolutely critical during the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue on post pandemic.”

Construction is scheduled to begin by July 1, 2021, with the system complete and ready for use by December 31, 2021.
