SPARWOOD, BC – UPDATE: CP Police and the RCMP are investigating a Friday morning train collision in Sparwood.

CP Rail confirmed that at around 8:15 a.m., a freight train carrying grain made contact with a tractor trailer around the Elkview mine access road crossing.

CP told LNN that there were no injuries to crew members and the investigation is ongoing.

Sparwood mayor David Wilks posted about the incident on social media.

He noted that as the semi was crossing the train tracks, there appeared to have been a mechanical failure on the tractor, resulting in the truck not being able to move.

Wilks said on social media that, “the train could not stop in time and struck the tractor unit, dragging it about 150 meters before the train came to a stop.”

Mayor and Council for the District of Sparwood would like to provide a few photos of the train incident this morning and…

“The trailer disconnected from the tractor unit. Again, we do not believe there are any injuries and we ask people to stay away from the scene to allow emergency personnel to do their job.”

Wilks added that it’s expected Michel Creek Road, the area of the collision, will be closed for some time.
