UPDATE: 13 active COVID cases within the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division

LETHBRIDGE, AB – (MAY 2 UPDATE): Two more infections were reported by the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division late Saturday night, May 1.

One new case is at St. Michael’s School in Pincher Creek, with the other new infection at St. Francis Junior High School. This means there are now 13 active infections within the school division.

(MAY 1 UPDATE): The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division reported another new case of COVID-19 at one of its schools on Saturday. The infection is at St. Joseph School.

That is the only active case at the Coaldale school, according to the division. This means that as of May 1, there are 11 active infections within the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division.

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has reported one new case of COVID-19 at St. Francis Junior High School in Lethbridge.

This means there are now 10 active cases directly impacting Holy Spirit schools.

All close contacts of the new case at St. Francis have been notified and are required to quarantine.

It could not be stated if the infected individual was a staff member or a student.

As of April 30, four schools within the division are impacted by cases:

  • One at St. Francis Junior High School (Lethbridge)
  • One at St. Michael’s School (Pincher Creek)
  • Two at Father Leonard Van Tighem (Lethbridge)
  • Six at Our Lady of the Assumption School (Lethbridge)

These cases have resulted in the isolation of roughly 250 staff and students.

This update from the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division comes after the province announced new COVID-19 restrictions for “hotspots” in Alberta, including Lethbridge.

One of the changes includes moving all junior and senior high school students (grades 7 and above) in the listed “hotspots” to an online learning model as of Monday, May 3.
