MEDICINE HAT, AB – Following a 6-2 loss on Thursday, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were looking for some revenge against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night.

Thanks to some slick playing, they got it, earning a 6-3 win at Co-Op Place in Medicine Hat.

FIRST PERIOD

Before the first goal was scored, Easton Kovacs was given a penalty for tripping just over eight minutes into the game, giving the Tigers the power-play advantage.

Minutes later, at 13:57, Medicine Hat’s Oasiz Wiesblatt was called for high sticking.

Unlike the Tigers, the ‘Canes were able to take advantage of their power-play opportunity, with Logan Barlage netting his eighth goal of the season at 14:45.

Dino Kambeitz and Alex Cotton earned the assists on Barlage’s goal.

A bit of a skirmish just after the 15 minutes mark resulted in penalties for Lethbridge’s Noah Boyko and Medicine Hat’s Nick McCarry and Wiesblatt.

Before the end of the opening frame, Cole Miller scored his first goal of the season at 17:45, assisted by Joe Arntsen and Jett Jones.

SECOND PERIOD

Penalties were called early in the second period, with Medicine Hat’s Aidan Brook dinged for holding 2:31 into the frame.

Brook was once again sent to the box at the 6:03 mark, for elbowing.

Just over two minutes later, Lethbridge went up 3-0 thanks to a goal by Alex Thacker, his third of the season, off an assist from Noah Boyko.

Medicine Hat showed their grit seconds later, with Teague Patton scoring his second of the season, with the assists coming from Cayden Glover and Carlin Dezainde. The score stood at 3-1 for Lethbridge at the end of the second.

Before the end of the period, though, Hurricane Alex Cotton was issued a minor penalty for slashing at 17:24.

THIRD PERIOD

The third period was certainly the busiest for scorekeepers.

Four minutes into the final frame, Dino Kambeitz scored his sixth goal of the year, with Joe Arntsen and Logan McCutcheon assisting.

Kambeitz was then issued a major for fighting, going to battle with Medicine Hat’s Eric Van Impe at the 5:46 mark.

Not too long after, at the 6:21 mark, Cole Clayton of the Tigers was issued a minor penalty and Lethbridge made good use of the power-play.

At 6:34, it was Chase Wheatcroft scoring his sixth of the season to put the ‘Canes up 5-1. Alex Cotton and Justin Hall earned the assists.

Medicine Hat wasn’t done yet, though.

At 8:59, Corson Hopwo scored his 14th goal of the year, followed by a goal from teammate Carlin Dezainde at the 11:42 mark.

This cut Lethbridge’s lead with the score at 5-3 as the game came to a close.

At 12:06, Hurricane Joe Arntsen was given a minor for tripping. Medicine Hat was unable to take advantage of the power-play and the Tigers pulled goalie Beckett Langkow to gain the extra man on the ice.

That move was all for naught, as Chase Wheatcroft scored his second goal of the game on the empty Medicine Hat net just before the final buzzer.

Dino Kambeitz was named the first star of the game, with Hurricanes teammate Chase Wheatcroft being named second star. Medicine Hat’s Carlin Dezainde was named the game’s third star.

Following the 6-3 win, the ‘Canes travel back to Lethbridge to host the Tigers at the ENMAX Centre Sunday night – their last home game of the season.
