LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge will be recognizing mental health this week.

May 3 through 9 is Mental Health Week in Canada, with Friday, May 7 being Children’s Mental Health Day.

Wood’s Homes, a children’s mental health centre that offers treatment and support for 20,000 children, youth and families every year. Wood’s Homes has been in the Lethbridge and surrounding area since 1990.

In a release, the centre stated that, “our organization has witnessed a significant increase in demand for crisis counselling.”

“COVID-19 has added many layers of mental health challenges for many young people and their families due to family conflict, financial stresses, social isolation, lack of family and natural supports.”

Over the course of the pandemic, Wood’s Homes had to limit their walk-in services to basic needs support at the door. To continue helping those in need, the centre has been providing support by phone, text and via video conferencing.

The centre offers no-charge, immediate services with professional counsellors.

To join Wood’s Home in marking Mental Health Week, Lethbridge City Hall will by lit up in green on Friday, May 7.
