Nine WHL players win gold at 2021 IIHF U18 World Championships

CALGARY, AB– Nine WHL players won a gold medal for Canada at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship in Frisco and Plano, Texas.

In the gold medal game, Canada defeated Russia by a final score of 5-3 on Thursday night.

The nine players are as follows:

  • Thomas Milic (Coquitlam, B.C. / Seattle Thunderbirds)
  • Tyler Brennan (Winnipeg, Man. / Prince George Cougars)
  • Nolan Allan (Davidson, Sask. / Prince Albert Raiders)
  • Denton Mateychuk (Dominion City, Man. / Moose Jaw Warriors)
  • Olen Zellweger (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. / Everett Silvertips)
  • Logan Stankoven (Kamloops, B.C. / Kamloops Blazers)
  • Conner Roulette (Winnipeg, Man. / Seattle Thunderbirds)
  • Connor Bedard (North Vancouver, B.C. / Regina Pats)
  • Dylan Guenther (Edmonton, Alta. / Edmonton Oil Kings)

Dr. Ben Cameron joined the squad from our hometown Lethbridge Hurricanes as the Team Physician.

Young phenom Connor Bedard tied the record for points by a 15-year-old at the tournament with 14 points (7G-7A), which was previously set by Connor McDavid in 2013.

This is Canada’s first gold medal at the IIHF U18 World Championship since 2013.
