LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks have added a local player to the women’s soccer team.

Ambreah Kelly has committed to join the club for the 2021 fall season.

The standout right-back has been a member of the Lethbridge Football Club since she was 10 years old and has actually been coached by Sean Carey – the Kodiaks head coach – before.

Kelly said, “I really like his coaching style and how he gets the team together.”

“I’m just really excited to play for the Kodiaks and getting back into playing soccer.”

Carey, meanwhile, said it’s always exciting to bring local talent to the collegiate team.

“She’s been an LFC player all her life. She’s a right back that’s physical, strong,” the coach commented.

“Ambreah has the same element that we always look for in players. She’ll run through a wall for her teammates, and I feel that with a good training camp she could be pushing for playing time this fall. We’re excited to have her on.”

Kelly said despite the challenges brought forward by COVID-19, she’s focused on pushing through and carrying on.

She stated that, “obviously with COVID we’ve had a break [from playing], but I’m just really excited to get back and doing what I love.”

“Training has been a little different, so I’ve just been focusing on more strength training and getting in some runs.”

When public health restrictions allowed for outdoor training, Kelly had the chance to meet her new teammates.

She that that “it was so nice to meet the team.”

“They were really good at welcoming me, which obviously makes me feel more comfortable.”

Last month, the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) was granted approval to draft schedules and start preparing for 2021-22 post-secondary athletics.
