Consistent, small declines in provincial COVID cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Sunday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,140 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 218,961. Of those, 22,280 cases are active while 194,538 people have recovered.

The numbers show a decline of 55 in new cases between Saturday and Sunday.

In the local area, Lethbridge reported 13 new cases, Medicine Hat had four and eight in Lethbridge County.

Since yesterday’s update, there have been three COVID deaths, one in Calgary Zone and two in the Edmonton Zone, taking the total provincial deaths to date at 2,143.

Provincially, 647 patients are currently hospitalized including 186 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 11,858 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,416,002 tests completed on 2,114,185 different people.

2,144,280 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province as of the end of May 14 and 40.6 per cent of the population have received at least one dose.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 88,958 cases, 10,515 active
    • 252 in hospital, 71 in ICU
    • 649 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 74,535 cases, 5,035 active
    • 231 in hospital, 79 in ICU
    • 1,058 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 24,474 cases, 3,309 active
    • 75 in hospital, 15 in ICU
    • 166 deaths
  • Central Zone – 19,158 cases, 2,291 active
    • in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 147 deaths
  • South Zone – 11,791 cases, 1,101 active
    • 34 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 123 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South:

  • Lethbridge – 4,658 (13 new) cases, 350 active, 37 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,691 (nine new) cases, 139 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,576 (three new) cases, 131 active, 10 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,390 (one new) cases, 79 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,457 (five new) cases, 43 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,202 (eight new) cases, 170 active, 11 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,132 cases (four new), 185 active, 18 deaths
  • Cardston County – 990 cases (ten new), 77 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 553 cases (two new), 50 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 425 cases (five new), 79 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 289 (one new) cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 301 cases, 51 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 263 cases (one new), 32 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 205 cases (one new), 25 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 154 cases, five active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 69 cases, 11 active, one death
  • Waterton – One case, zero active, zero deaths
