Pincher Creek getting new CT scanner thanks to $3.1 million investment

PINCHER CREEK, AB – Residents of Pincher Creek will no longer have to travel out of town for CT outpatient services.

The Government of Alberta is giving more than $3.1 million to create a space for CT services, including purchasing a scanner, at the Pincher Creek Health Centre.

It will provide predominately elective scans.

Mayor Don Anderberg says this will help to reduce travel times, wait times, and improve patient outcomes. These are all concerns he has heard from many of his constituents.

“This is an important investment for our community. Those patients waiting for elective scans from Pincher Creek and the surrounding communities will be able to stay close to home and their families to get this important service.”

Health Minister Tyler Shandro highlighted the $6.6 million in recent funding that supported other upgrades at the Pincher Creek Health Centre. Those include elevator and lighting upgrades, a new nurse call system, chiller replacement, and enhancements to the Connect Care system.

Monday’s announcement seems to be sitting well with local health professionals, including Dr. Gavin Parker, Pincher Creek’s community medical director and board chair of the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan.

“Rural sites like Pincher Creek Health Centre are an important part in the delivery of health care in the province. Investments in rural sites [is] crucial to ensure all Albertans have access to healthcare, no matter where they live.”

Work on the CT site will begin in the coming months, although there is no firm timeline yet.
