RAYMOND, AB- The Bon Jovi concert is now a go.

Concert goers now have the green light to attend the drive-in show on Saturday, May 22 in Raymond.

Following Dr. Deena Hinshaw’s announcement on Monday allowing drive-ins to go ahead, the Town of Raymond is following suit with their show.

Greg Robinson, Community Development with the Town of Raymond, says they are confident in the restrictions that are currently in place to provide a safe show for everyone.

“Restrictions such as staying in your vehicle, only household members in your vehicle, and social distancing. We will be expanding our parking charts so that way there is more distance between vehicles. We have washroom facilities and food trucks available, we want to make sure everybody is going to be distancing for that.”

Over the weekend, AHS cancelled all drive-in events in areas with high COVID-19 case counts, including Raymond. The cancellation of the concert resulted in a high number of attendees asking for refunds. Robinson explained they had to work with the show promoter to reschedule the event, however, yesterday’s announcement gave them the green light to continue with the show on Saturday.

The drive-in can fit roughly 175 cars distanced from one another on just over five acres of land. People who have purchased tickets will be able to use them at the drive-in, with around 50 tickets still up for sale.

“We are encouraging people to take advantage of the weekend, some people may have had plans with camping and the weather isn’t particularly good for that,” said Robinson. “We can still operate the drive-in under cooler conditions, so it’ll be a great time and great opportunity to take in the drive-in.”

According to AHS, people looking to attend a movie must remember:

  • People must remain within a motor vehicle that is designed to be closed to the elements while attending the performance activity except where necessary to use the washroom.
  • People must position their vehicle at least two metres away from other vehicles.
  • Attendees only share vehicles with members of their household.

The drive-in provides the town of Raymond with a “significant” tourism opportunity.

“We offer high-quality shows, and these are high quality, top-notch, and well-produced show,” added Robinson. “They feel like the next best thing to being live in person and it’s still a good value, only roughly $100 or so per vehicle for your family.”

The Flordia Georgia Line concert is still set to take place on June 12. You can find all the details or purchase tickets at Raymond.ca/drivein
