Active COVID cases continue to fall in Lethbridge and the wider South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

908 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 221,467. Of those, 18,813 cases are active while 200,496 people have recovered.

This is the third day in a row where fewer than one thousand new infections were identified Alberta-wide.

517 cases, or about 57 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

In the South Zone, 54 people tested positive with nine in Medicine Hat and seven in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the city fell by 29 and regionally by 60.

Since yesterday’s update, six Albertans died from COVID with three in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the South, Central, and North Zones. To date, 2,158 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a woman in her 60’s from Lethbridge County.

Provincially, 685 patients are currently hospitalized including 185 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 10,392 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,441,575 tests completed on 2,120,981 different people.

2,271,955 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 18.

Since yesterday’s report, 517 cases of COVID-19 variants were confirmed in Alberta with 40 of those coming from the South Zone.

  • Calgary Zone – 89,942 cases, 8,683 active
    • 263 in hospital, 77 in ICU
    • 650 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 75,264 cases, 4,446 active
    • 233 in hospital, 70 in ICU
    • 1,063 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 24,860 cases, 2,780 active
    • 82 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 170 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 19,452 cases, 1,978 active
    • 67 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 150 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 11,930 cases, 925 active
    • 40 in hospital, 11 in ICU
    • 125 deaths (one new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,692 cases (seven new), 281 active, 37 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,703 cases (one new), 103 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,585 cases (one new), 103 active, 10 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,403 cases (five new), 74 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,463 cases (five new), 42 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,201 cases (two new), 129 active, 12 deaths (one new)
  • Medicine Hat – 1,152 cases (nine new), 155 active, 19 deaths
  • Cardston County – 998 cases, 79 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 562 cases (four new), 38 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 434 cases (two new), 56 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 300 cases (five new), 20 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 308 cases (four new), 37 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 267 cases (three new), 31 active, zero deaths
