Lethbridge Police investigating suspicious southside fires

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A pair of fires in south Lethbridge Tuesday are being investigated as suspicious.

On May 18, multiple 911 calls reported fires on the city’s southside at around 2:20 p.m.

The first blaze was in the 500-block of 12 Street South, where a fire began in a couch in an alleyway. Flames spread to a nearby fence, but responders were able to contain it.

About 15 minutes later, calls reported a fire in the alley of the 600-block of 5 Street South. Another couch was on fire and the blaze spread further to a nearby shed, vehicle and fence. High wind gusts fanned the flames and as a result, the fire spread to e neighboring detached garage.

Firefighters were able to take down the flames before the house caught on fire.

Police investigated both scenes and deemed the fires as suspicious in nature.
