390 new COVID cases in Alberta Wednesday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

390 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 225,424. Of those, 10,953 cases are active while 212,273 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 28 people tested positive. The breakdown from Lethbridge did not properly add up on the AHS website so we have elected to not include how many new cases the city recorded because it is unclear.

Six Albertans died from COVID including two in the South Zone. To date, 2,198 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for a man in his 70’s and a woman in her 80’s. One death was in Fort Macleod and one was in Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 548 patients are currently hospitalized including 157 who have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 5,979 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,492,487 tests completed on 2,133,886 different people.

2,578,577 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of May 25.

136 cases, or about 35 per cent of today’s total, were variants.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

  • Calgary Zone – 91,611 cases, 4,577 active
    • 222 in hospital, 62 in ICU
    • 666 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 76,209 cases, 2,823 active
    • 183 in hospital, 62 in ICU
    • 1,074 deaths (two new)
  • North Zone – 25,467 cases, 1,684 active
    • 53 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 175 deaths
  • Central Zone – 19,907 cases, 1,230 active
    • 53 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 154 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,208 cases, 635 active
    • 37 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 129 deaths (two new)

  • Lethbridge – 4,766 cases, 174 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,740 cases, 78 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,596 cases, 43 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,429 cases, 58 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,485 cases (one new), 43 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,228 cases (three new), 67 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,208 cases (six new), 118 active, 21 deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 1,017 cases (three new), 37 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 568 cases (one new), 22 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 453 cases (three new), 39 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 302 cases (one new), 13 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 316 cases (two new), 21 active, six deaths (one new)
  • Cypress County – 284 cases (one new), 28 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 227 cases (two new), 33 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 155 cases, two active, three deaths
