406 new cases of COVID reported in Alberta Saturday, nine in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – 406 new cases of COVID-19 were reported for Alberta today.

Saturday’s update from Alberta Health Services (AHS) covered statistics compiled over the last 24 hours. The 406 new cases bring the province’s total case count to 226,855. Of those, 8,474 infections are active. 216,167 people have recovered.

The rate of active cases is 210 per 100,000 people in Alberta as of Saturday’s report.

There are currently 478 people in hospitals across the province, with 140 of those individuals in intensive care units (ICU). Eight new deaths were reported; bringing Alberta’s count to 2,214 COVID-19 related deaths.

As for testing, the province completed 6,882 tests on May 28, bringing the total test count to 4,516,174 with 2,139,421 people tested. The daily test positivity rate was 5.9 per cent.

As of end of day May 28, 2,720,687 vaccine doses have been administered in the province. In Lethbridge, AHS staff and Sage Clan offered a vaccination clinic to the homeless population in the downtown Galt Gardens.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 92,201 cases, 3,459 active
    • 184 in hospital, 50 in ICU
    • 671 deaths (two new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 76,580 cases, 2,239 active
    • 159 in hospital, 57 in ICU
    • 1,080 deaths (three new)
  • North Zone – 25,646 cases, 1,254 active
    • 50 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 179 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 20,126 cases, 1,002 active
    • 55 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 154 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,286 cases, 518 active
    • 30 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 130 deaths

The province lists 16 infections in ‘unknown’ zones, with two of those being active.

Below is a breakdown of infections in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 4,794 cases (nine new), 145 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,757 cases (six new), 67 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,601 cases, 32 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,435 cases (three new), 46 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,488 cases (two new), 35 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,236 cases (two new), 46 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,214 cases (one new), 84 active, 22 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,021 cases, 32 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 570 cases, 19 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 459 cases (four new), 37 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 302 cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 317 cases, 15 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 293 cases (one new), 31 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 230 cases, 25 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 155 cases, one active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 82 cases (one new), 14 active, one death
  • Waterton – Five cases, four active, zero deaths
