Goat snuggling and petting zoo now open at Lethbridge Corn Maze

LETHBRIDGE, AB- It’s not everyday that you have the chance to snuggle with a goat, but one organization in Lethbridge has brought the idea to life.

The second annual Goat Snuggling event at the Lethbridge Corn Maze and Petting Zoo is now underway.

Owner Theo Slingerland says the idea came to him after browsing the internet looking for creative and fun ideas to do.

“We have lots of baby goats and several different pens set up, we can have three to four baby goats in a pen. The pens are separated from each other so we can have four groups of people. Baby goats are really nice, they are friendly, you can book a session and stay with them for an hour.”

While at the corn maze, people can also visit the petting zoo, cow train, hedge maze, a playground and large slide.

Attendees must follow all current COVID-19 health guidelines for the safety of both visitors and staff.

Each session is an hour long and can fit up to five people, costing $30. Guests can also stay for an extra half hour following their session to visit the other animals and activities.

$5 from each session goes back to the Lethbridge Foodbank. Slingerland says they raised just over $1,100 last year to donate back to the Foodbank.

“The Lethbridge Foodbank sometimes has leftover food that they can’t use because it gets old or not enough demand and too much supply. So, we have a goat shed and every couple of days I go out to the food bank and pick up all of the food that they can’t use and feed it to our animals. Since we get the goat food, we figured it’s a good idea to give back to the Lethbridge Foodbank to help them feed people in need.”

The goat snuggling is open by appointment only on Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To book your appointment, visit www.lethbridgecornmaze.com.

The corn maze is expected to open on July 30 and run till the end of October. New this year is a sunflower maze, Slingerland says it will only happen if the sunflowers come up.
